The Women

B.B. - I was born in Bhutan and lived in a refugee camp for 19  years in Nepal before being resettled in Fort Worth in 2009 with my husband and my three children. I enjoy working with WORN because I am now able to contribute to my families’ household income and enjoy the company of my friends while knitting.
B.G. - My name is B.G. and I was born in Bhutan, but lived in a refugee camp for 19 years in Nepal before being resettled in Fort Worth in 2010 with my husband and his family. Because of my health I am unable to stand for long periods of time which has made it very difficult to find work in the United States. I enjoy working with WORN because I am now able to contribute to the household income.
B.T. - I am from Bhutan and lived in a refugee camp for 22 years before being resettled in Fort Worth earlier this year with my husband and two children. I'm happy I get to work for WORN because it will help pay household bills.
C.G. - My name is C.G. and I was born in Bhutan. I lived in a refugee camp for 18 years in Nepal before being resettled in Fort Worth in 2010 with my two children. The income I earn from working with WORN helps me pay off my travel loan, an interest free loan through the International Office of Migration.

D.R. - I was born in Bhutan and was in a refugee camp for 22 years.  I was resettled with my husband and son in Fort Worth in Jan. 2014. Working with WORN provides extra income for my family and allows me to stay home with my son.

H.L. - I am from Myanmar.  My husband, five children and my husband’s parents were all re-settled in Fort Worth.  I enjoy working with WORN because it helps me pay for my children’s  expenses and household bills.

H.S. - I am from Myanmar.  I lived in a refugee camp for 5 years in Malaysia before being resettled in Fort Worth in 2014 with my husband and son.  Since arriving in Fort Worth we have had another child.   I enjoy working with WORN because it helps me pay our rent.

J.T.B - I was born in Myanmar.  I was resettled in Fort Worth in 2012 with my husband and son.  We now have two sons. I love working with WORN because I’m adding extra income for my family, and I find the knitting very interesting.  I enjoy helping other knitters and coming up with new ideas for knitting projects.

M.G. - I was born in Bhuton and was in a refugee camp for 21 years. Myself, my husband, his parents and brother were all resettled in Fort Worth in Feb. 2014.  We are expecting our first child so knitting for WORN will provide extra income for baby items and allow me to stay home with the baby.

M.D.H. - I from Burma but I can not remember ever living there. I was born in the jungle between Burma and Thailand after my parent’s village was burned by the army. We fled through the jungle to the Thai refugee camp. I lived in the refugee camp for 20 years before we were given the opportunity to come to the United States in 2008. In these six years, I have learned so much from reading English to driving a car to getting a job. Now with WORN, I am able to continue to provide for my family doing something I love to do which is crocheting.

N.S.K. - I was born in Burma. I lived in a refugee camp for 6 years and was just resettled in Fort Worth this February 2012 with my husband and my young daughter. I am excited to use a skill I learned in the refugee camp to help provide a better home life for my family here in the United States.

Ni.T. - I was born in Burma and lived two years in a refugee camp. My husband and I were resettled in Fort Worth and just had our first child. I am able to use my expertise as a knitter to help supplement our family income so that I can stay at home and take care of my young child.

N.T. - I was resettled in Fort Worth in 2010 after living in a refugee camp for 15 years in Nepal. I came here with my husband and daughter. I enjoy the benefit of working with WORN primarily because it helps to provide extra income.

P.R. - My name is P.R. and I am from Bhutan. I was resettled two years ago along with my husband and baby after 21 years in a refugee camp. I'm glad to be working with WORN because it helps me pay household bills for me and my family.
R.T. - I am from Bhutan and lived in a refugee camp for 20 years. In 2012, I was resettled in Fort Worth with my husband and two children. Working for WORN gives me the opportunity to help my husband with bills, food and clothing.

S.M. - I am from Bhutan, but spent 19 years living in a refugee camp before being resettled in Fort Worth in 2011 with my husband and family. I enjoy working with WORN because I am able to help pay for my family's utility bills by doing something I am passionate about.
